Robert Hughes Gallery represents a select group of regional, national, and international artists who have extensive exhibition records. Many of these artists have their work in major collections. Some have commissioned public works to their credit. In addition to two-dimensional works of art, the gallery also exhibits both small and large-scale sculpture, ceramic works, and exceptional hand-made jewelry. In conjunction with contemporary works of art, the gallery displays a unique group of artifacts from various parts of the world. These are obtained from private collections, or from Robert Hughes' travels. The mix of older objects of art with current works contribute to a rich, eclectic feeling unlike that of most contemporary art galleries. Robert Hughes has a Masters degree in painting. He has been in numerous publications and exhibitions, including "Fresh Paint, The Houston School", curated by Barbara Rose and Susi Kalil, in conjunction with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In 1988 he was invited to participate in a realist exhibition at Sherry French Gallery in New York, along with Alice Neal, Jack Beal, and Janet Fish. Robert was a member of the faculty at the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and also taught part time at Rice Universtiy. While a graduate student, he taught classes at the University of Houston, and upon graduation taught a summer program at Bennington College, Vermont. |
